Estepona is located west of Marbella and its resort town is also called Estepona, as is the case with most regions across the Costa del Sol. The coastal stretch between Marbella’s Guadalmina and the town of Estepona is known as the New Golden Mile.

ESTEPONA WEATHER
Weather in Estepona is mild and enjoyable. Costa del Sol has sunshine on the majority of the days in a year and the temperatures rise as high as 30-40 degrees on summer time. In winter the temperatures can climb up to 20 Celsius degrees, but remember to take your long sleeves with you in the evening, it might get chilly.
HISTORY OF ESTEPONA
A little history lesson for anyone who is dreaming of Estepona apartments for sale. The area has been occupied since prehistoric times; stone-age tools and dolmens have been discovered. Romans occupied the area, but a seaquake destroyed their town in the 4th century.
In 1342, the Battle of Estepona took place in the Bay of Estepona between the fleet of the Kingdom of Aragon and the Marinid Dynasty. The with the Aragonese fleet won but were subsequently destroyed near Gibraltar and Christian forces ultimately won the Siege of Algeciras.
In 1457 Henry IV of Castile took over Estepona from the Moors. During this time a church was built to replace what was previously a mosque. The town grew all around this church to be destroyed once again. What is left is the old clock tower (and the nearby Simon Fernandez school).
Estepona was governed as an administrative district of Marbella up until 1729 when Philip V of Spain granted Estepona its town charter. It was not until the early 2000s that Estepona started to convert from a small fisherman town to a bustling holiday resort.
