Los Monteros is a luxury district on the east side of Marbella, the city. It runs along the Mediterranean coastline and stretches into the hills of Marbella.
Home to one of Marbella’s landmarks, the Los Monteros Hotel, which was built in 1962 by the famous Spanish banker, Ignacio Coca, Los Monteros has developed into a very prestigious residential neighbourhood. In 1965 the Rio Real Golf Course, just west of the district was built as well as a medical spa Hotel Incosol (currently closed), in 1973.
In the 1970s the beachside estate, La Reserva de Los Monteros was built. The urbanisation consists of individual plots with beautiful villas. Since then the area developed. Today there are many other wonderful urbanisations including Urb. Bahia Real, Urb. LA Brisas, Golf Rio Real Village.
The 5*GL Los Monteros Marbella Hotel & Spa is one of Marbella’s most prestigious hotels. It is located right by the beach and is home to one of Marbella’s most renown restaurants, Los Flamingos. The hotel also runs the ‘La Cabana’ beach club a short walk down through the lushly green streets of Los Monteros, located right on the seafront.
The beach is also called Playas Los Monteros. There are a number of “chiringuitos’ (beachside restaurant-bars). The neighbourhood has added cache thanks to Malaga born actor Antonio Banderas whose seafront residence is located in this area along with that of Sir John Hall (ex. Newcastle United Chairman).
The public hospital, Hospital Costa del Sol, boasting an excellent reputation in Europe as one of the best medical facilities is located on the mountainside of the coastal highway in Los Monteros.
The area boasts some of the Costa del Sol’s best golf courses including Santa Clara Golf and its luxurious urbanisation, found a stone’s throw from the hospital to the east. Marbella Golf and Country Club is also within a short distance.
