Marbella is located in one of Europe’s most visited holiday destinations, Spain’s Costa del Sol in southern Europe. Not only is it one of the most sought after destinations for people looking for a healthier, more relaxed lifestyle under the sun; Marbella also provides easy access to travel in and around Spain’s wonderful cities, Gibraltar and The northern coast of Africa and Morocco.
Located just a stone’s throw from Morocco, it is easy to take a nice day trip to this exotic country and step into a completely different world from your home in Marbella. Morocco is a gorgeous country, mixed with varying landscape from sensational beaches along the African Atlantic coastline to the desert and exotic cities, the colourful terracotta red city of Marrakech, the labyrinths of the medinas and endless markets with a mixture of colourful spices, handmade carpets, jewellery and an endless display of wonderful artefacts and handmade, local craftsmanship.
Day trips are organised daily by coach or if you prefer you can drive down and take a ferry across the straight from Algeciras less than an hour’s drive away from Marbella. The ferry is approximately a 30-minute ride across the sea. You get to admire spectacular views of both the northern African coast and Spain’s southern coast, which also happens to be the most southern point of Europe. You also get to see the rock of Gibraltar elevated off the Spanish coast.
On that same journey, you can visit yet another country, Gibraltar. The famous rock, a British community with some exciting shopping to do in its tax free state. The rock also boasts some nice colonial architecture and interesting sights including built-in caves which were used during the war, many moons ago, as lookouts for ships coming to invade. Gibraltar is also famous for its monkeys which run wild across this small country.
Tarifa, less than an hours drive from Marbella, stretches along the coastline of the province of Cadiz, south of Spain, on the Spanish Atlantic coast. It is known for its beautiful, golden dunes and spectacular beaches. Due to windy weather conditions, this region is world-renown for surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. The town itself is a typical Andalusian whitewashed village remnant of the past. It is filled with delicious restaurants and a lively nightlife.
Sevilla is approximately a 2 hours drive from Marbella. This is one of Spain’s most visited cities, due to its architecture and traditional flamenco spirit. This spectacular city has something to offer everyone. Embedded deep in Spanish folklore and tradition, it is the essence of southern Spain in all its glory. Mixed with the most spectacular Moorish sights giving it its special beauty, Sevilla is a city you cannot, not visit.
Malaga, most probably where you will have landed to reach Marbella, is also a great city. It has become the cultural hub of southern Spain, hosting the film festival with Antonio Banderas and other famous actors and film directors. It is also home to the Pablo Picasso museum which is held in the home that the painter grew up in as a child. There are some spectacular monuments to visit and more recently the port has been renovated into a fabulous promenade lined with delicious restaurants and lovely boutiques.
Marbella is surrounded by endless little treasures that one can visit on a day trip. It offers a wide choice of activities and is also one of the Costa del Sol’s main attraction featuring the Starlite Festival featuring world-famous performers. Living in Marbella is unique not just for the sunny weather, glitz and the glamour of Puerto Banus and the luxury lifestyle it offers. It is also one of those rare places that is within a short reach of some of the world’s most desirable sight-seeing places.
