Last week, the mayoress of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz together with the CEO of the Tourism Board of the Costa del Sol, Margarita del Cid, presented their ambitious plan called the “Great Tourist City Plan of Marbella” to the President of the Costa del Sol Tourism, Francisco Salado. They planned to secure €4 million in funding. Their project aims to improve the region’s tourism experience and make it one of Spain’s top tourism destinations.
“Today is an important day for Marbella because we have come to present a plan that is yet another important step for tourism in this city, in order to be classified as a Great Tourist City,” stated Marbella mayoress Ángeles Muñoz.
Marbella is already one of the most desired places to visit and certainly attracts a huge number of tourists per year, not to mention that it is one of the favoured places for Europeans to relocate to under the sun. However, the mayoress believes there is still room for improvement. The city needs to follow the times especially in terms of technology to cater to the changing needs of tourists and its international, jet-set visitors and inhabitants. The world is an oyster and as we modernise we become more dependent on modern facilities and technology because it enables us to breakdown borders by communicating and conducting business 24/7 on a global scale. The virtual life has got no boundaries in terms of territory, outreach and timeframes. Marbella wants to satisfy that need and provide the services required for this global and remote virtual lifestyle.
The regional government is allocating a budget of €4 million, of which 50 per cent raised will be financed by the Junta of Andalucía. “Turismo Costa del Sol is currently finalising the technical report for approval,” says Muñoz. “The complete plan, which will reflect our future strategy, will be ready to present to the regional government in July,” she adds.
Muñoz, who is very proud of this moment and looking forward to realising her vision to suit the times confirmed: “We want to provide Marbella with tools that make us a leading destination in tourist information through the launch of virtual offices and innovative promotions, thanks to technology.”
